Dr. Daniel Straus

Dr. Daniel B. Straus holds the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Tulane University. Previously, he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Princeton University working under the guidance of Prof. Robert J. Cava where he synthesized new inorganic and molecular materials. He was the recipient of the Blavatnik Regional Award for Young Scientists in Chemistry in 2021 from Blavatnik Family Foundation and the New York Academy of Sciences in recognition for his discoveries of the origin of instability in the halide perovskite CsPbI3 as well as the chiral self-assembly of the molecules C60 and SnI4. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania in 2018, working with Prof. Cherie R. Kagan, where he was a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. His doctoral research focused on the synthesis and spectroscopy of thin films of colloidal nanocrystals as well as 2D organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites,and his thesis was recognized by the University of Pennsylvania with the 2019 John G. Miller Award for the Most Outstanding Doctoral Thesis in Chemistry. He graduated from the University of Chicago with B.S. and M.S. degrees in Chemistry.
