Eric Smith
Associate Director-Tulane Energy Institute
Biography
Prof. Smith is a Professor of Practice with the A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University. He teaches graduate classes focused on Energy and also teaches in the undergraduate Energy Certificate program.
He serves as the Associate Director of the Tulane Energy Institute where he interfaces with relevant faculty in other schools at Tulane including the Law School and the Engineering and Sciences school. Professor Smith also serves a Tulane media spokesman on current energy issues, for example concerning imports of heavy crude oil from Venezuela or national security issues associated with LNG exports. In the past, he has served with the World Trade Center of New Orleans, as a consultant to Louisiana's Department of Economic Development and as a member of the Greater New Orleans, Inc. and as a member of the Louisiana Governor’s de-carbonization task force. He also served two terms on the board of the National Ocean Industries Association, a trade organization based in Washington and focused on economic development in the waters of the U.S.

Most recently, he has focused on the prospects for adding “low carbon” LNG export facilities in the US and on using offshore wind to support offshore oil and gas production. He also actively supports installation of critical CO2 infrastructure along the Gulf Coast.
He has a BS in Chemical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, an MBA from Tulane University and over 35 years of experience in National and International Oil and Gas markets, particularly in downstream refining and upstream, deepwater offshore construction activities.
