Lawrence J. Kahn

Educator, Entrepreneur, and Attorney, Lawrence (Larry) Kahn founded and serves as the Director of Tulane Law School's Utility Vegetation Management Institute within Tulane Law School's Center for Environmental Law, where he also serves as Tulane's first Distinguished Research Fellow and as an Adjunct Professor of Energy and Environment in the Master of Jurisprudence program. Larry is a founder and director of several companies in the energy and technology space, including Overwatch Grid Services, Everpower Energy, and DataX. He is also a founder and director of energy, environment and technology advisory companies, including The UVM Company and Sparkline Strategies. He also co-founded and serves as Director of the nonprofit Tribal Energy Solutions, which seeks to solve energy challenges and promote justice on Native American lands. He serves as the Facilitator of the Vegetation Management Working Group of the International Wildfire Risk Mitigation Consortium, as Co-Director of The UVM Project, serves as a Delegate to the Red Sky Summit, and was awarded Educator of the Year in 2024 at the Trees & Utilities Conference. He is a sought-after public speaker and has over 75 publications and public speaking engagements on 5 continents, including numerous keynote speaker addresses and podcast and webinar interviews. He has created numerous internship opportunities for Tulane Law School and undergraduate students, and has supervised thousands of hours of pro bono service by Tulane students. The majority of Larry's legal career was as a litigator in New York City with the Law Firm of Freehill Hogan & Mahar, where he was a partner before turning to entrepreneurial, advisory, and academic pursuits. He received his B.A. from Columbia University and his J.D. from Tulane Law School, holds a Contracting Officer's Representative Certificate from the Army Logistics Management College, is a member of the Bar of the State of New York, and is a member of numerous professional organizations, including The Energy Bar Association, The American Public Power Association, The International Society of Arboriculture, and The Utility Arborists Association.
