Biography
Matt Candler is an investor, teacher and motonerd. After teaching and coaching middle schoolers and working on the Main Ops Center for the 1996 Olympics, Matt got his MBA in decision sciences and education innovation at Kellogg. He went on to lead early expansion efforts at KIPP, the largest charter school network in the US, and in New York City, home to the first city-wide charter incubator in the US. He moved to New Orleans in 2006, serving as CEO of New Schools for New Orleans, and as a board member of The Cowen Institute for Public Education. In 2010, Matt founded 4.0, a non-dilutive incubator focused on innovation in learning: 4.0 alumni have supported more than 8M learners across the US. Matt's interest in electrification and the energy transition began 18 years ago when he started building electric motorcycles in his garage; his bikes have been featured on TV and in books on the future of transportation. An active angel and family office investor in energy since 2019, Matt serves as GP at The Batteries Included Fund. He’s an advisor to New Orleans Community Lighthouse, one of the largest micro-grid networks in the US.
