Michael Naguib, PhD

Michael Naguib is a Professor in the Department of Physics and Engineering Physics at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Prior to joining Tulane in 2018, he was a Wigner Fellow and Research Staff Scientist at The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). He received his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Drexel University in 2014, where he co-invented two-dimensional (2D) transition metal carbides and nitrides, known as MXenes, in 2011. His research focuses on the discovery, synthesis, and characterization of novel layered and 2D materials for electrochemical energy storage and conversion, as well as environmental applications. He has published more than 145 peer-reviewed papers, with more than 68,000 citations and an h-index of 77, and is an inventor on seven patents. Dr. Naguib has been named a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate six times and has received numerous honors, including the Humboldt Research Award, NSF CAREER Award, Robert L. Coble Award, Kroto Award, and Ross Coffin Purdy Award. He is also a Senior Member of the National Academy of Inventors and has delivered numerous plenary, keynote, and invited lectures at international conferences and universities. Dr. Naguib serves as an Associate Editor of Energy Advances, published by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
