Shafin Khan

Biography
Shafin is the Vice President of Innovation and Technology Commercialization at the University of New Orleans Research Foundation (UNORTF), leading the Innovation team on academic/industry collaborations, workforce development programs, and student innovation at UNO.
Shafin and the Innovation team spearhead efforts at UNO on student entrepreneurship and faculty innovation, developing StartupUNO, a student startup accelerator and pitch competition. Shafin is leading the creation of an entrepreneurial culture on campus through the integration of these topics into UNO curriculum and student groups.
Shafin previously worked at the Tulane University Office of Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Development. At this office, Shafin helped faculty translate bench research into commercialized products and actively engaged with industry to develop academic/industry collaborations.
Before the Tulane role, Shafin served as the Director of Technology Commercialization at the New Orleans BioInnovation Center where he developed a life science technology commercialization program, providing business strategy, mentorship, and educational programming. During his tenure at the BioInnovation Center, he helped life science startups raise over $80M in funding for their businesses.
Shafin earned his J.D. from Loyola University of New Orleans and gained his B.S.E. in Biomedical Engineering from Tulane University.
